Best of International STEAM Summit Replay: From Robots to "WHOA" bots! How One STEAM Team Blended Science, Technology, Art, and Math to Achieve True Interdisciplinary Learning
A Talk by Samantha Ramsey (Teacher, Manhattan SD 114)
About this Talk
Our district recently wrote and pioneered its first STEAM curriculum for grades 3-5, and tasked the technology, art, and music teacher with working together to implement it! As we tell our story, we will focus specifically on our program's robotics units, explaining how the conscious decision to shift our mindset from using Dash robots as tools to teach coding in isolation to using them as tools to teach ANYTHING has totally transformed student learning. In this session, we'll share concrete strategies that we use when planning truly interdisciplinary robotics lessons and share examples of students products. Attendees will walk away with access to several complete lesson plans that harness the engaging power of robots to teach codings kills within the context of science, art, and math content.
